Using this data for your own raise
- Ask for your own band. HR staff can usually see the pay range for their grade; use it.
- Price the job you do. If you are a one-person HR department handling benefits, payroll and recruiting, compare yourself with the specialist and manager rows, not the assistant row.

A classification point for HR folks: the federal administrative exemption specifically lists "personnel management; human resources; employee benefits" among the business functions that can qualify, but the employee still has to exercise independent judgment on significant matters and earn at least $684 a week on a salary basis. HR assistants doing mostly clerical work usually don't meet that test. See 29 CFR 541.201.
